Muffled Shine (Grigorii Khanin and Dmitrii Gubin) are from the town of Balashikha, an eastern suburb of Moscow. This region has a special significance. Although the area has long become part of the capital's general sprawl, history has tended to think of it as a liminal space where a city ends... and emptiness begins. In the nineteenth century - so the story goes - the main highway running through Balashikha was famous for frequent processions of prisoners, led from the capital on their way to long, distant exile in Siberia. Russian bloggers have spoken in the past of these peripheral sounds as: "Strange rock music, with elements of noise, ambient forms... and heaven knows what else."
