Bedroom Bear

Three new drone and glitch recordings from northern Russia consider the nature of music without authorial or editorial control. Sounds prior to human intervention are used and celebrated - at an increasing distance from "handicraft."
Ggle Highs and Black Sky Chant are the names of two young shoegazing/drone experiments. Although from different cities, their work operates across common territory, both sonically and philosophically.
These three artists are from Moscow and Karelia. The difference between those locations is reflected in terms of noise. The quieter the venue, the further one can see - both in physical and romantic terms. Long vistas prompt wistful thoughts.
Coming from Khabarovsk, St. Petersburg, and Tallinn (via London), these lo-fi sounds deliberately create a sense of distance. Which begs the question: towards what are these songs actually striving?
The natural scale of Russia, not surprisingly, inspires a sense of awe in many musicians. Speaking logically of incredible distances becomes a tall order. Rational thought gives way to vague sounds and images; romance starts losing ground to mild anxiety. Even on the edge of some very big cities.
Full of Nothing is a label based in the forests between Russia and Finland. From these liminal spaces come the sounds of yearning for a sense of community. Those same noises are fading fast
Wind in (the) Willows and Kosmofon are from Karelia and Estonia respectively. Both outfits draw heavily upon forms of limitlessness (as landscape and space) in order to investigate issues of adult expectation - and disappointment.
Some springtime recordings from Petrozavodsk, Riga, and Moscow all draw upon the romance of distant rivers, forests, or stars. They do so in ways that suggest similar networks are failing at home
Bedroom Bear is a one-man project, based in St Petersburg, yet connected to the shaggy forests of nearby Karelia. The lo-fi aesthetic of Bedroom Bear has now led to a charming debut album, invoking both places
